Brazilian Nude Cream

November 21, 2019

Sol de Janeiro, the brand behind my signature scent, is one of my top ten favorite beauty brands. The pistachio-caramel scent of the body products is addictive. I get so many compliments on my 'perfume', but it's Sol de Janeiro body products. The unique scent is delicious and enticing.

The lingering, pistachio-caramel scent is strong and there are days I'd prefer a non-scented body cream. I'm not a big fan of scents and wish more brands would create fragrance-free products for the sensitive type. FINALLY! Sol de Janeiro added a new, fragrance-free body cream to the lineup - Brazilian Nude Cream.

Brazilian Nude Cream is amazing! It is the same texture and weight as the BUM BUM cream, but is colorless and essentially scent-free - it does have a subtle cream scent. This body cream is super nourishing and a must-have.

Brazilian Nude Cream is infused with Passionflower and Colloidal Oatmeal to soothe sensitive skin. There is no fragrance, shimmer or color in this cream, just hydrating ingredients that will leave your skin feeling moisturized and soft. LOVE!

I also appreciate the pump dispenser. Two pumps dispenses the perfect amount to cover your entire body. Hopefully, Sol de Janeiro will create similar packaging for the Brazilian BUM BUM cream.

I've tried the entire Sol de Janeiro lineup and most of the products have a permanent spot in my beauty routine. The Brazilian Kiss Cupuacu Lip Butter is my go-to lip balm. The light, creamy texture is nourishing and the tube is BIG, so it will last a long time.

The pistachio-caramel scent of Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is AMAZING! The scent is sweet and intriguing. The cream is super-nourishing and has a slight shimmer that gives your skin a subtle glow.

The sun screen products have the same addictive pistachio-caramel scent.  The Sol De Janeiro My Sol Stick is a moisturizing protection balm. This on-the-go balm stick is great for extra protection in sensitive areas. AND, the Bum Bum Sol Oil is a two-in-one perfume and sunscreen oil. The sun protection oil is infused with skin smoothers an luminizers.

Glamping PJ'S

November 11, 2019

Here we are again - Getaway House DC. I'm a little obsessed with camping and even though it's cold AF outside, I prefer a few nights in my tiny cabin over city life.

Of course, I make sure to get a few camping inspired photo shoots for the blog. Here I'm wearing Chloe glasses, a Victoria's Secret polka dot satin cami and satin striped shorts. I got the fluffy socks at Bed, Bath & Beyond - they're SO comfy. Teddy is wearing Fab Dog red buffalo check pajamas.

Teddy has pj's, a cozy vest, rain suit, hoodie and boots. He has his own Away suitcase and packs more than my husband! He's prepared for all weather conditions and various glamping photo shoots. Ask him to pose and he gives you Blue Steel!

SIDE NOTE - There's no mirror in the cabin (I KNOW), so I purchased a rechargeable iHome mirror with bluetooth (for music) and LED lighting. Yeah, it's high maintenance, but a necessary glamping tool. I also bring a huge Manfrotto light for perfect lighting inside the cabin. Life of a blogger!

My Must-Haves

October 30, 2019

I consider myself a trendy person, but when the "dad sneaker" hit the runways, I had no intention of jumping on that bandwagon. OK, it's been a while and the oversized, sporty sneaker is still going strong. The sneaker trend has been modified and the color schemes have gone wild, but the chunky sneaker is here to stay (at least for another season).

I did it! I purchased myself a pair of dad sneakers AND I love them. I went with the beloved Balenciaga Triple S Sneakers (available at mytheresa.com) in white. The name refers to the three soles supporting the body and giving it a chunky look. This is why they're HEAVY! If you're tryna loose weight or tone your body, wear a dad sneaker.

I love the look of these sneakers - they're comfortable and the neutral color scheme goes with everything. Triple S sneakers run large, so I recommend sizing down. I'm usually a size 5.5 or 6 sneaker and I purchased these in size 5. I'm obsessed with my Balenciaga sneakers.

I HAVE TO HAVE this Burberry London Football Scarf (available at Farfetch). The super-cropped sweater is the perfect layer. You can don this football scarf over a t-shirt, button down or sweater. The stripes will elongate and flatter your figure and the colors are neutral and perfect for Fall/Winter.

I love Karl Ikonik t-shirts. They're excellent quality and fit perfectly. I've gone through a few Ikonik styles (I keep shrinking them by accident) and love the Karl Ikonik Rhinestone T-shirt. You can pair this t-shirt with joggers or wear a fitted size with a skirt and heels for a night out.

Be careful washing this t-shirt, cause the rhinestones fall off easily. I'd recommend a gentle hand wash and lay flat to dry. I'm already on my second rhinestone t-shirt.

I'm a huge Chloé fan - it is my most anticipated fashion show each season. I usually blow the fashion budget on Chloé AND these modern rubber boots are a must have. The Chloé PVC Betty Rain Boot in santal green was made for me. The khaki Wellington boot has an oversized eggplant heel - it's the perfect color combination. These are going on my Christmas wish list.

One of my latest brand obsessions is Spell & The Gypsy Collective. The hippie-like brand is inspired by vintage treasures and I LOVE IT! Spell & The Gypsy apparel and accessories are suitable for Spring/Summer, but there were a few pieces that are perfect for my Fall line-up.

The Eagleback Matinee Jacket (not pictured here) is one of my favorites. I also had to have the Spell & The Gypsy Collective Gypsy Traveller Tote Bag. This sturdy tote dons the brand name and an eagle in flight print. It also has a detachable scarf. This tote could use a base for structure (I like structured bags), but I love it anyway.

The Axel Tweed Bucket Hat by Maison Michel is the perfect accessory to brighten up a Fall wardrobe. The gold embellishment goes nicely with the Fall jewel-tone trend. AND the bucket silhouette looks cute on everyone.

Getaway House

October 15, 2019

The Getaway in Shenandoah is a 20 acre plot of land with small cabins scattered about. The cabin (Getaway House) is a thoughtfully designed, cozy space, with all the essentials for a relaxing weekend in the woods.

I used to go camping with friends often when I was younger and hadn't thought about a mini adventure vacation in well over a decade - And then I saw the Getaway House on Instagram. I gotta say, Instagram is the perfect platform to advertise. If it wasn't for the GH ad, I wouldn't have found this little haven just two hours from DC.

When we pulled into our personal camping space, we were excited about the setup AND we hadn't even seen inside the cabin yet. First step to the best camping trip is to pour a glass of wine or crack open a beer. Then I walked around the small site and took photos (for the blog).

When booking your Getaway House, you can include your dog for a small fee. Upon arrival we noticed there was a long leash attached to the picnic table. We attached it to Teddy's harness and let him roam. He's never been without a short leash and kept looking back to make sure it was ok for him to explore - so cute! The leash was just long enough for him to wander the perimeter of the site. This was a nice amenity for our little bear.

The Getaway House is perfect. A little smaller than I expected from online photos, but the innovative design is everything you need for a short getaway. There's a small table with a bench/step along one side and chair at the other. The bench doubles as a step to the elevated queen size bed. This bed was SO comfortable.

There's a small kitchen area, with a two burner stove, mini fridge, sink and shelf with provisions and dishes. The provisions are for purchase. Our host was kind and left s'mores for the adults and doggy s'mores for Teddy. There was also dog dishes. I appreciate the amenities for our Teddy Bear.

The bathroom is super small, but clean and has everything you need. You gotta squish by the toilet to close the door and get to the shower, but you are camping, so be happy you have a hot shower. On that note, I kinda drained the hot water, but it was replenished in less than an hour. The shower is tiny, but clean (very important) and featured Pharmacopia shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There's a fan in the bathroom and you can open the small window for ventilation.

Our camping space was located on a small hill, so we were looking down in to the woods. The full-sized window located next to the bed and overlooking the woods was mine and Teddy's favorite feature. You can bring down the  blinds at night for more privacy, but we opted for no window coverings, so we could see the sun come up.

I was hoping Teddy would see an animal, even a squirrel would do, but no luck this time. I read on Instagram that campers had deer outside their window - Which is nice, as long as you're inside!

We only spent one night at the Getaway House and I was bummed that I didn't get lay by the window all day (check-out is at 11:00 am). Next time I "getaway", Imma lay there all afternoon and relax.

I was also terrified that I would look out the window at night and someone or thing would be looking back at me. It's beyond dark and a little scary. I refused to hang by the fire in the dark. I was nervous that we wouldn't see our attacker in time - AHS just started and takes place at a murderous camp in the 1980's.

The small area surrounding the cabin is perfect. There's a picnic table, two Muskoka chairs, logs to place your beverage and a firepit and grill grate. There's also a container containing wood and a few startup logs. The wood is for purchase and all provisions will be charged to your credit card sometime later.

We started our fire late and didn't give it the attention required to heat up the grill grate. Our hamburgers took forever and weren't very good. Camping 101 and we botched it. The menu will be better next time and I'm definitely going with hotdogs on the grill - They're super easy.

We camped in October and it was really cold in the morning. This would be a great time to get the fire going. Next time we're gonna start the fire in the am and relax by the flames during the day. We'll probably retire early and unwind in the cozy bed when it gets dark.

There are many things to do in the area, but we just wanna relax. Maybe next time, we'll take a stroll through the outpost, but I'm not the adventurous type, so there will be minimal activity.

Teddy had the best time. This dog is living his best life - always in the car, going on trips and being spoiled the entire time. I pre-made bacon, scrambled eggs and chicken for him. Spoiled!

He laid horizontal across the bed and my husband laid diagonal - I had the worst sleep squished between them. AND Teddy didn't wanna get out of the bed in the morning. He's a lazy camper.

We stayed at the Getaway House for one night to see if we'd like it AND we're obsessed. We've already booked more weekends. It's camping in a small, rustic cabin and is the perfect mini vacation. You can sit by the fire and eat at the picnic table or cook inside and enjoy the view. I'm branding this vacation in the wilderness "glamping".

This innovative camping style is brilliant. Just two hours from the city and you're sleeping in a tiny, simple cabin in the woods. It's perfect for people who just want to relax.

Too often we (you're also guilty) miss out on amazing experiences, cause we're on our phone or trying to "capture" the moment. I recommend you shut off your phone and place it in the cell phone lockbox. Get out your camera and take photos the "old fashion" way. Embrace the peace and quiet, cause soon you'll be back at work and counting down the days till your next getaway.

Sephora Collection X OLLY

October 09, 2019

Sephora Collection X OLLY gummies are chewable supplements comprised of all the right stuff to promote healthy skin, lustrous hair and relaxation. The expert blend of antioxidants, minerals, superfoods and vitamins aid your body and contribute to your healthy lifestyle.

Sounds positive, but the calorie intake?! If you take two of each - Lustrious Hair, Skin Detox, Glowing Skin and Radiant Sleep, you will consume 150 calories per day. As someone who's "currently" counting calories, sugar intake and carbs, these little gummies are packing too much weight for me.

Albeit, the Sephora Collection X OLLY gummies appear to have a good dose of the necessary supplements to aid in whatever you're trying to achieve - hair growth, radiant skin or to sleep better at night.

I should mention that I have a vexing case of insomnia and I score high on the stressed RTFO scale. SO, I have zero expectations for the Radiant Sleep gummies. It would take a mild sedative to calm me down and put me to sleep. I'm gonna give the Radiant Sleep gummies to someone with less issues!

I'm no expert, but after a few minutes researching online, I'm concluding that these gummies are comprised of the same antioxidants, minerals, superfoods and vitamins that you would find in similar supplements. The Lustrous Hair does however have 8333% of the suggested daily Biotin intake. Hmm.. I'm sure it's safe - It's Sephora.

The Lustrous Hair tastes like sweet grapefruit, the Radiant Sleep like blackberry and mint, the Skin Detox has a similar flavor of berries and mint and the Glowing Skin tastes like blueberry and pomegranate (essentially, it also tastes like berries). These gummies are TOO SWEET. I'm a salty kinda girl, so two of each supplement is asking a lot of me.

I realize making tasty chewable gummies or candy supplements is a great way to get people to take vitamins, but does it have to be sweet? I vote for vitamin-enriched chips. Not dehydrated fruit and veggie chips - I want salty, ruffle chips.

I'll slowly get through these gummies and probably share, but the Sephora Collection X OLLY supplements are too sweet and the calorie intake is too high. I'd prefer to swallow a giant flavorless vitamin.

The FRESHFARM Market - Dupont Circle

October 01, 2019

I've just come from wandering the FRESHFARM Market in Dupont Circle and I LOVED IT! I'm a huge fan of markets and I was really looking forward to this one. I wasn't disappointed - this market is impressive. The people, beautiful products, vast variety of beverages and food, thoughtful stands and persons attending them, make this market a must-see.

I'm sure most locals frequent this market, but this should should be on every "what to see in DC" list. Prepare yourself for a crowd, yummy samples and an overall great experience. Grab your shopping tote, cause you're gonna need the space.

Named one of the top farmer's markets in the country (Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times of London), this market has a lot to offer. During peak season, there are over fifty farmers offering fruit, vegetables, baked goods, district-made beer and spirits, cheese, meat, poultry, eggs, jams and pickles.. It's a Sunday haven for locals to shop fresh and organic foodstuffs and beverages.

FRESHFARM Market is open from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm on Sunday and is overflowing with shoppers. I thought if we arrived around 9:30 there wouldn't be too many people (being that it's Sunday morning), but no, this place was super busy. There was a lineup of over 30 people waiting for bagels.   We didn't get to try the bagels, cause I had my dog with me, but I'm convinced they're delicious.

The produce is brilliant in color and super-fresh. As shoppers are purchasing produce, the stand attendees are replenishing stock and ensuring the stands are perfect. The owners and staff were really nice (most of them) and happy to answer any questions. There were also samples (love that).

We didn't buy any produce, cause we were going out of town, but I'm a big vegetable fan and will definitely frequent the FRESHFARM Market for my weekly grocery shopping.

My favorite stop was the King Mushrooms stand. I'm a huge fan of the fruiting body of fungus and had no idea there were so many different kinds.

The guy tending to the stand was pleasant and explained that mushrooms have many health benefits. I purchased a small bottle of Lion's Mane Double Extraction in an effort to give my failing memory a jolt - it's been a week and nothing yet, but these things take time.

The Chicken of the Woods mushroom is beautiful - like coral. I've never had this type of mushroom, but plan to visit the market this weekend and buy some.

The sun was shinning and I was able to capture good photos. I have more mushroom pics, but my blog is limited and there's so much more to talk about.. Oh and most of the people tending to the stands allowed me to take photos. It was a nice photography experience.

Right Proper sounds like something a Newfie would name their beer - I'm from Newfoundland and had to buy some. The display was huge and there was a nice selection of beer.

The guy assisting us seemed to be more concerned with waving to people at the other stands and wasn't overly helpful. I kinda feel bad that I'm harping on you, but you can do better. You potentially lost a loyal customer - This beer better be delicious and "Right Proper" to ensure a return to the Right Proper stand.

I'm not a baked goods fan at all. I love sandwiches, but the bread is just a means of transportation to my mouth. Albeit, the baked goods at the FRESHFARM Market were appealing, especially the sweet and savory pastries.

My dog would have been jealous if I ate something and didn't share with him and wheat isn't healthy for dogs, so I snapped a few pics and wandered to the next alluring stand.

The Gordy's Pickle Jar stand was a "must stop and buy something" moment. My husband loves anything pickled, but our hands were full (we already purchased beer and a bottle of whiskey), so we opted for just the Bloody Mary Mix. We will definitely be regulars at this stand.

The flowers at the FRESHFARM Market were unique - even I was impressed and I'm not a big fan of flowers. Albeit, I had to have a bunch. The flowers were displayed individually in buckets, so you can create your own bouquet. These flowers were the only pop of color in my neutral home and lasted a week. I've been converted to a flower fan.

I moved to this neighborhood mid-summer and was anticipating the Dupont Circle market, but was preoccupied with decor. I finally got up on a beautiful Sunday morning, grabbed my pink shopping tote and ventured out.

There's a lot to love about this neighborhood, but the FRESHFARM Market is my favorite attraction so far. I'm declaring myself a regular and looking forward to see what's offered during the festive holidays..

RE-DEW

September 25, 2019

I'm a beautyblender fan and am first in line when a new product drops. My favorites are the beautyblender pure cosmetic sponge applicator (the white one), liquid blendercleanser, blendercleanser solid and the Blender Defender beautyblender Protective Case.

These beautyblender products are a must have in my makeup drawer and travel cosmetic case. I'm assuming anyone who reads my blog, is familiar with beautyblender, so details about the brand's original lineup are unnecessary.

My not so recent beutyblender purchase was the beautyblender Re-Dew Set & Refresh Spray and the Power Pocket Puff. Of course I stocked up on blendercleanser and threw a new beautyblender pure in my cart too. I've had these products a while, but have been cheating on beauty for decor and neglecting my cosmetic reviews.

beautyblender Re-Dew Set & Refresh spray is a refreshing spray that illuminates your skin and sets your makeup. The Hydrolyzed Silk conditions your skin, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid moisturizes and the Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate helps balance your skin. Eva Longoria would approve (that commercial irritates me).

What I didn't realize is this spray requires a little shake before applying it to your skin or cosmetic sponge. The first part of the two-phase solution is supercharged water and the second a milky oil. Initially, I neglected to read the directions, didn't mix the two and only dispensed the water. Of course, the results were disappointing.

My second go was more successful and gave great results. I mixed the product, sprayed directly on my cosmetic sponge and gently dabbed my skin in areas I wanted to highlight or needed a little extra hydration.

If you apply Re-Dew to the back of your hand, you can see that the oil is sitting on top of your skin and slow to absorb, so I recommend using a sponge to press the solution in to your skin. You can also use your fingers to massage the product for better absorption.

The next-generation beautyblender Power Pocket Puff is intended for powder formulas. But, the versatile, two-sided puff can be used for so much more. The teardrop shape and built-in finger pocket allow for precise application.

The soft pink side has a gel-like insert and special fibers to collect powder and apply a controlled amount to set and bake your makeup. The tan buff side resembles a thin cosmetic sponge allows you to blend. I like to use the buff side to blend and re-blend my liquid formulas. The interchangeable finger band stretches to either side easily, as a secondary means of holding the puff.

I'm not a big fan of applying spray to set makeup, or refreshing throughout the day, but Re-Dew has convinced me to jump on the bandwagon.

beautyblender's Power Pocket Puff is a double-duty makeup tool that is versatile and has earned a spot on my must-have list.

beautyblender is an innovative cosmetic brand with a growing lineup. These products are worth the high cost and add value to your makeup routine, while allowing you to get the most out of your makeup.
